Each lesson starts off with the same four beginning exercises. Be patient with yourself this first time through. You’ll get the hang of this in no time!
***Remember, there’s no rule saying you have to do this all in one sitting!***

Let’s get started!
Watch the instructional video and download the free-writing page (or open to page 8 in your workbook). Then write, write, write!
Watch the video, download the beautiful phrases page, and look back at your free-writing to see all of the accidentally beautiful phrases you wrote!
Take a few minutes to watch the video, download and print the song map, and start mapping those beautiful phrases and song ideas of yours!
Watch the video and download the layout organization page to start putting the ideas from your song map in some sort of order. You’re doing a great job!
Great job on the beginning exercises!
Now let’s get started on…
The first structure we’re going to learn about is Verse/Chorus. You can read about it on page 12 of your book, watch the instructional video explaining it, and then listen to our example of it! (Alicia Keys, y’all!)
The second structure we’re looking at is called AABA. We’re on page 13 of the book, you can watch the instructional video, and then listen to our musical example. (Louis Armstrong is the sweetest!)
The third and final structure we’re going to look at is called AAA. We’re on page 14 of the book, you can watch the instruction video, and then listen to our beautiful example. (You may notice that the words are different on page 14 and in the example video…that’s because there’s no “right way,” remember? Enjoy! Jennifer Hudson is one of my favorites!)
That’s it for our examples, now it’s time to get started on YOUR songs!
First up:
In the Verse/Chorus structure, we’re going to work on three separate parts. (We’re on page 15 of the book.)
I can’t wait to hear what you come up with!
First: CHORUS
Second: VERSES
Last (but not least!): BRIDGE
Great job on your Verse/Chorus song!
Next up:
In the AABA structure, we’re again going to break things down into three parts. (We’re on page 16.)
Keep up the great work!
First: MAIN LINE
Second: SECTION A
Third: SECTION B
Great job on your Verse/Chorus and AABA songs! You’ve made it to the last song structure!
Last but not least:
In the AAA structure, we’re going to break down the process into just two parts. (We’re on page 17.)
You’re doing an awesome job, keep it up!
First: MAIN LINE
Second: SECTION A
You can look at what you’ve just done in one of two ways: 1) You just wrote 3 different versions of a song, or 2) You just wrote 3 songs…
Either way, great job!
